It's refreshing and very enjoyable to listen to such an incredible voice and watch her unconventional and amazingly entertaining performance, as opposed to most of the typical, stoic, mannequin opera stars who never step off their mark on the stage or engage the audience. Fantastic!

thanks for this rare video. What is the year of this live recording? She played Salome under Böhm with Wiener Phil. from 1972 to 1981 (Böhm's death). Maybe this is one of the Tokyo concerts in October 1980 given the subtitles

This is wieland Wagner's production in Stuttgart. A great opportunity to see his staging in full color, his tristan and Walküre are sadly black and white, and don't have a great quality. His elektra with nilsson (Her last performance) and gwyenth jones in vienna is also available in color but it has a very bad quality too.

Troyanos, as one of my voice teachers who got to hear her live when in the Met chorus and also at San Fran opera said, the most MUSICAL singer he'd ever heard (best musician). Her expressiveness here is otherworldly.

A few years ago, I saw Maestro Leech during the Martina Arroyo Foundation's 15th anniversary gala, and I stopped him and told him that this was some of the most stunning singing I've ever heard. This is brilliant in every way. I return to it often, and it just gets better every time.

I love her Brunnhilde much better than Hildegard Behrens who to my ears didn't have the heft and the right dark sound that Marton has it is a dark big voice. Her Brunnhilde has a lot of emotion in it as well. Great acting great scenery great everything love it!!!!

Bumbry opens her mouth and a FLOOD of tone pours effortlessly from her body. Goodness gracious that is one resonant voice. She sang well into her 70’s.

It is very interesting to hear a German version of this duet. They sounds cold and un-dramatic against Giulietta Simionato and Franco Corelli. But Richard Leech tries, he was working hard to create a good duet.

We attended one of LR's Salomes as the Met, hoping it would be as gripping as her Sieglinde or Kaiserin, but in a more visceral way. We were not disappointed until some minutes before the end. She just pooped out vocally and those last glorious phrases were barely audible. She was still vociferously applauded. It was, overall, one helluvan evening.

this contains a lot of the "C'era negli occhi tuoi" passage, that I wish would be performed in the theater. Turandot is not a long role. Assuming the soprano has the vocal heft for the role, this section would not unduly tax her and the text really helps with her transition from Ice to Fire. Long stretches of the Alfano ending are wisely cut as the music is no way distinguished, but this I would like to hear. It's odd to hear Lehmann singing the role... clearly not for her. Lord only knows how she was heard over the orchestration at key points and the top C's must have been a trial. I'm sure she was MORE than happy to give it up at the earliest possible opportunity! Liu would have suited her down to the ground!

Terrible performance.

This is from the 1967 performance in in Osaka on 10 April 1967, propulsively and expertly conducted by Boulez. Superb acting and singing - those top Bs! - and the way Nilsson sings "Er sah mir in die Augen" - He looked into my eyes - stunning. I just love this scene; it's the essence of Wagner.

I love this! Both Verrett and Gencer are superb. And I love the contrast in their voices. Both have GORGEOUS tone, but in totally different ways. And both use their tone in ways that suit their interpretations. Fantastic.
